angryPotato.net is a internet community founded by Shelly Farrell and Caoimhin Blake in 2005.
It was founded in 2005. It is an amalgam of a community website, a discussion forum and a place for people to meet and get to know each other.
Coming from the politically heavy, community-driven forum that was GCN, they were looking for a more lighthearted take on things. Starting from small seedlings, the website has grown into a thriving online community and social network where people talk about everything from civil rights and politics to tea, pancakes and squirrels.
The community spirit of angryPotato has extended into the real world. Members meet on a semi-regular basis for ‘Forum Meets’. These have included trips to pubs and clubs, but also trips to the cinema, pool competitions and treasure hunts. An actual angry potato must be present to make it an official meet, photographs of which are usually supplied by the members.
With over 800 members and regular meets, angryPotato.net has its own loyal bunch of spudlets as they are called.
These people can often be seen in various locations all over the world, usually with a camera in one hand and a potato in the other.
