Good idea! I've to admit, I've been a bad athletic spud lately. I'm trying to get back into running lately but motivation has left me and it seems like there is no prospect of reconciliation. Any advice?

Orange- Sign up for a race/event. That will give you something to work towards and the adreniline rush on the day will help you complete it.

There's a 10k race in Firhouse in September if you fancy it.

Meanwhile, there is a 10 **mile** race on Saturday morning in the Phoenix Park that I am signed up for. I ran 7.5 miles the other day. If I can do 8.5 or 9 before then I think I shall give it a go.

Don't try the extra distance this week. Just fit in a couple of 5 mile runs. Save your energy for the big event. When I was doing the half marathon thingy, I was told to not try the distance at all until the big day, and to only run 10km runs as prep.

From the Random thread

Are you lifting free weights? Squats, deadlifts, etc?

Quote from: Dwn Wth Vwls on 12 Aug, 09, 04:32:PM

My routine is as follows:
Mondays: Deadlifts, kettlebell clean and press, Turkish get ups, pull ups and press ups, planks, side plank and crunches
Tuesdays: Boxing and other cardio, with some core work
Wednesday: longish run (45 mins to an hour) OR rest day
Thursday: Interval training: quick alternations of various free weight exercises and bursts of cardio: e.g Kettlebell rows, kettlebell push press, kettlebell 8 swing, and the cross trainer in between.
Friday: whatever my trainer throws at me.
Saturday or Sunday: Longish run (45 mins to and hour) and swim

Is the amount of weight you're using going up regularly? I could be wrong (since you have a trainer and all) but I'd have thought you'd benefit from more compound weight lifting. Muscle requires more calories to maintain, so increasing muscle mass means you burn more calories every day without doing anything.

I'm walking in the Cork Mini Marathon on 27th September and I haven't done a tap of training for it yet. I'm off to the gym today however if I can shift this awful cramp! I used to go to the gym regularly and loved it, can't wait to go back and bring my fitness back up some bit.
My fibromyalgia can get a bit angry with me if I do too much though so I can't go very often!

I've been doing the Couch to 5K thing that DWV mentioned and it's going well.
My routine is

Monday - gym for jog and weights
Tuesday - work out with trainer OR rest
Wednesday - gym for jog and cardio work out
Thursday - work out with trainer OR rest
Friday - zero
Saturday - mega cardio workout followed by a swim
Sunday - swim or day off

been doing this for 3 weeks and loving it. Haven't lost an ounce though and I'm dieting, eating well.

It's so frustrating

Weighing yourself is not very useful when exercise is involved, as opposed to just dieting. How your clothes fit usually tells you more.

I've just eaten chicken balls and feel like a slob. Might do a spot of walking tomorrow after work. Just have to keep myself motivated.

I'm used to a fair bit of exercise but for the last two week I haven't done any, except a couple of long walks at the weekend.
Hopefully when things settle down I can get back into a healthy routine.
